Four Herb vs. Eight Herb Essiac


Many folks ask us which is "better"--four herb or eight herb essiac. Let's look at the truth.

There are two primary formulas for essiac tea used today. Here's a brief explanation of the differences (and similarities) the two recipes.

The "original" essiac recipe which was found by the Canadian nurse Rene Caisse in 1922 consisted of four herbs. This is the formula which she successfully used in Canada for over four decades. It is also the recipe that she submitted to the Canadian medical authorities in 1937 for their evaluation. The four herbs she used in this formula were burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm, and rhubarb.
